I have to admit that I'm not a horror film-goer, but when Stephen King's "It" has finally making a reboot, you can't deny its attraction to audiences, through all the previews, early critics or poster.
Much critics and reviews were talking about how good it has adapted, remaining the original spirit from the novel, etc. I haven't read a word from the book, I will just discuss how the film looks like to me.
"It" has done a great job doing a great horror film by not making it "just for frightening. After so much of the sequel and prequel of "The Conjuring" came out, It" remains its true purpose of making a great film, by making a good protagonist (in fact a bunch of good protagonists) with interesting background story and conflicts, which made antagonist Pennywise so much attractive than Annabelle, The Nun or any others.
However, last year Netflix brought up TV series "Stranger Things" with great old-school visual ingredients has made a new sight on horror genre. The series make it not only a horror film series, but also a great teenagers-growing film, that's why the series is successful. "It" looked so much like "Stranger Things" in fact very much like it, making it not even new nor fresh.
But overall, it's a great film, well done to the team.
